PAUL MITCHELL SUPERGIRL PRO FRIDAY RESULTS: FIELD NARROWED TO 64 AS WSL WOMEN’S QS6000 EVENT HEATS UP FOR SATURDAY’S ACTION AT OCEANSIDE PIER

Weekend Line-up Also Includes Free Festival Village: Paul Mitchell Hair Styling, Autograph Signings, Pro Skateboarding, Live Music, Film Fest and More

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (July 24, 2015) – Day one of the three-day Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro — the largest all-women’s surf contest in the world and the only WSL Women’s QS6000 event in the continental U.S. — saw a field of 108 narrowed to 64 on Friday, grinding through nearly three rounds. Action resumes tomorrow at 8 a.m. PST with the final three heats in the Round of 72 before the CT powerhouses take to the water at the iconic Oceanside Pier.

Thirteen-year-old phenom, Caroline Marks (USA), was the talk of the day. She justified her recent back-to-back National Scholastic Surfing Association national titles by starting with a Round of 108 highest heat total of 15.60. Marks was excited to get off on the right foot among some of the world’s best.

“It was amazing,” Marks said. “I had a great heat! To post big scores at a big event at my age means a lot. Some of the best girls from around the world are here, so it’s really cool.”

Marks continued onto the Round of 96 later in the day when the tide began filling in, offering more inside waves that she was able to take advantage of. “I’m excited to win both of my heats,” Marks said. “I think tomorrow should be a good day and the waves should be fun again. I’m super stoked!”

Anali Gomez (PER) came out on top of her Round of 96 heat, battling over Ashlee Spence (AUS) by just .04. Moving through to the Round of 72, Gomez put up the best heat total of the round thus far. With the win, Gomez will find herself alongside Spence once more – this time joined by current World No.2 Courtney Conlogue (USA) and Alana Blanchard (HAW).

The free event runs through the weekend, jam-packed with entertainment Saturday (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Sunday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). In addition to showcasing world-class surfing, attendees can experience live concerts, meet-and-greets with top pros, giveaways, PRO SKATEBOARDING COMPETITION on the Active Rideshop vert ramp, A FEMALE SURF FILM FESTIVAL, comedians, an expanded Kona Beer Garden, and complimentary hair styling by Paul Mitchell in their on-site style salon.
