OCEANSIDE, CA (August 3, 2013) – Day two of the Ford Supergirl Pro presented by Paul Mitchell — the largest all-women’s surf contest in the world and the only ASP 6-Star event in North America — heated up Saturday, as record-breaking crowds gathered to watch the field of 48 of the world’s best female pro surfers compete for 12 coveted spots in Sunday’s finals.

Pauline Ado (FRA), 22, fresh off of a 3rd place result at the U.S. Open of Surfing, advanced through two heats today with impressive wave selection, punctuating her Round of 12 berth by defeating current U.S. Open Champion Carissa Moore in their Round of 24 affair.

Paige Hareb (NZL), 23, last year’s Supergirl Pro runner-up, would contribute to the day’s upsets, besting defending event champion Sage Erickson (Ventura, CA), 22, in a rematch of last year’s final while securing a spot in the Round of 12.

Hundreds of fans lined up early Saturday morning for a chance to meet Bethany Hamilton, pro surfer and subject of the feature film Soul Surfer. Hamilton earned a second place finish in her first heat and a first place finish in her second heat (with Coco Ho just behind in 2nd place), advancing her to Sunday’s finals.  Hamilton signed autographs for fans Saturday afternoon at the GoBank tent, which was followed by a live music performance by Tribal Theory.

“I’m stoked to be here at the Ford Supergirl Pro; it’s an awesome event,” said Hamilton.  “I’m thankful to all my fans for coming down and cheering me on today.  All the girls were ripping it up out there; I’m stoked I won my heat.”
